With Extreme Rules just round the corner, the final card has been released, and here are my predictions on the eight confirmed matches.
Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin: No DQ Match
The first match of the night is likely to be the rubber between between Ziggler and Corbin. Following his trail of destruction, Baron Corbin must be a nailed on winner of this one. Add to that the facy Ziggler can put anyone over with his incredible work ethic, and we may see the birth of a star.
The Usos vs The Club: Tornado Tag Match
In this PPV, I would like to see full scale domination by The Club. As such, they should have no trouble dismantling the twins in this encounter. If Gallows and Anderson win in emphatic style, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them feature later on in the night whilst their opponents nurse their wounds.
US Title: Kalisto (c) vs Rusev
Unfortunately for Kalisto, his reign as champion has been a forgettable one. The Lucha Dragon has received very little time on the main show and that might be one of the signals that the company is not happy with his reign. Therefore, Rusev will “crush” the champion and become a two-time United States champion, returning to his once dominant role.
IC Title: The Miz (c) vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Cesaro
If ever a match has been over-exposed it is this one. However, the winner still remains a complete mystery where any of the combatants could walk away with the gold. I’m putting my money on Cesaro. The Swiss Superman received a massive push before his shoulder injury, and has looked even better since returning. The Owens-Zayn story will continue (probably until SummerSlam) and adding a title to the fray isn’t all that necessary. Saying that, as long as The Miz doesn’t walk out champion, I am happy!
Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho: Asylum Match
This match is an absolute no-brainer, and if WWE creative thinks otherwise, they are stupid idiots. Dean Ambrose has to walk away with a comprehensive victory to end this feud and to move on to bigger and better things. Jericho’s days in the company may be limited without a main event opponent, and I think with all the young talent being recruited he should be one to make way. Surely one of the big spots in this one must involve Ambrose smashing the plant over Jericho’s head. That one just writes itself…
Tag Titles: The New Day (c) vs The Vaudevillans
Following the events of Payback, let’s hope the Vaudevillans can bet through this match without incident. New Day are just a few week’s short of the record when it comes to the titles, but they will surely lose this one. Credit where credit is due, the trio kept he company afloat at the beginning of this year amidst the injury crisis, but it is time for a change. I doubt it’ll be clean, but The Vaudevillans must win nonetheless. Also, Gotch and English holding the titles perfectly sets up a feud with Enzo and Cass once Enzo is back in action. That is as easy booking as it comes.
Women’s Title: Charlotte (c) vs Natalya
All the angles running up to this match put things in Natalya’s favour. However, from a developmental stand point, she can’t be allowed to win! The younger, fitter, better wrestler in Charlotte should overcome everything and beat the Canadian. Somehow Charlotte is billed as the underdog for this one when, clearly, she should win this match 99 times out of 100. This could just be that 100th match, but it definitely shouldn’t be!
WWE Title: Roman Reigns (c) vs AJ Styles
The big main event has me torn. My heart says AJ, but my head can’t see Roman losing. Therefore, with regret, I believe Roman Reigns will retain the belt amidst a chorus of boos. If Reigns wins clean, Styles loses all claim to the title and will have to start from the bottom of the heap. I fully expect interferences from Gallows, Anderson and both Usos. If AJ was to, somehow, walk away the new champion, The Club versus The Shield is a must for SummerSlam! That’s if Reigns and Ambrose can side with the returning Seth Rollins for the greater good. Dream match!
