Coming off the huge main event on last week’s show, Bayley has been ruled out of TakeOver. This meant we were to see a triple threat main event to find the next number one contender to the Women’s Championship. The show did not slow down from this huge bombshell at the start despite the lack of matches.
The first match saw the debut of Australian tag team TM61 against the team of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. The newcomers, Thorne and Miller, put on a fine display showcasing their excellent talent. This is a team who could be very exciting to watch in the future, especially as the division seemed to be running a little thin. However, Ciampa and Gargano picked up the victory in this hard fought match. This proves that both teams could be forces to reckoned with.
In a short but entertaining talk segment, we learned that Austin Aries would be facing Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver. This is clearly a match the fans are incredibly excited to see as they stopped the show with chants of “Yes! Yes! Yes!” for several minutes. Forget the title matches, this is the one I am looking forward to the most on June 8th.
The second, and penultimate, bout saw my least favourite wrestler, No Way Jose, take on Jonathan Ortagun. This match felt quick and unnecessary with Jose taking the win. I do not understand the push this guy is being given considering his gimmick is one of the worst in a long time! At on top of that the fact the crowd don’t look invested in this guy at all, and we have a sinking ship.
The match advertised at the beginning of the night, Nia Jaxx vs Carmela vs Alexa Bliss closed the show is good style. The differences in styles and techniques made for an intriguing contest which was executed very well. There was only ever going to be one winner, and it was Jaxx who hit a big Legdrop on the Princess of Staten Island for the victory. It was wonderful to see Alexa Bliss showcase her talent which she has hinted at in her previous few matches. This women is a fantastic wrestler and could go on to rule the division at a later date. Looking forward to TakeOver, I will be very interested to see how this title bout unfolds.
